Cavity Wall Ties

Acorn Building Services

Over the last few years a number of cavity wall defects have occurred within the UK, attributable to the corrosion of metal wall ties within buildings.......The main indications of failure are bulging of walls, cracking of horizontal mortar beds, leakage and occasionally collapse of structure.

In the 19th and 20th century ties were fabricated from wrought iron and in more recent construction mild steel ties have been used, which in most cases were not protected and have invited corrosion. Until quite recently the only solution was to take down outer skins of wall and re build using new galvanised or stainless steel wall ties.

Acorn Building Services Limited are members of the British Wood Preserving and Damp proofing Association and the Guarantee Protection Trust. All work carried out by our company is fully guaranteed and underwritten for both workmanship and materials by the approved insurance protection trust.

The work normally involves detecting using special metal detecting equipment, the ties to existing walls, fitting new mechanical stainless steel wall ties or wall ties with resin injection and isolating or removing the old ties from the outer skin to prevent further corrosion. The Acorn remedial wall tie system is a proven solution to the problem of wall tie corrosion and is achieved by combining quality products and effective methods in the successful treatment of cavity wall tie replacements.
